This post was written a few days ago, but I just now got around to posting it.

We're preparing for the start of Advent! I'd say this is my favorite time of year!!! Today, we're getting ready by taking down all the fall decorations (pumpkins, scarecrows, mini bales of hay) that are sprinkled here and there on the mantel, on the buffet and in the window ledge. I LOVE fall decor, but it obviously can't stay out forever. We're also getting ready by making our new Jesse Tree Ornaments 2012

Aren't these ornaments lovely!? Simple, but beautiful I think. Several years ago we participated in a Jesse Tree ornament exchange with many families that we know. Each family made one to two handmade ornaments times the 30 or something families and we all ended up with some wonderful creations. However, LET'S BE REAL (since that what this blog is about)! I had small children then and HAVE small children now and those ornaments (some of them) haven't held up through the years. I remember one year we put up just a piece that was 'leftover' from the original ornament.

This year required more simplicity and a re-do!!! And I'm ok with that. Yes, the other ornaments held some sentimental value, but they are in reality still material things.

To learn more about the Jesse Tree and the tradition of 'walking' through Jesus' family tree during Advent just google 'jesse tree tradition'. There's a ton of good stuff out there.

We also have a new set of beeswax candles to make for our Advent wreath.

#2 warming the wax so its more flexible. The 'sheet' is between his hands.

#4 rolling the candle wax around the wick.

2 of the finished candles. I thought they turned out great!
