It works for me

Two weeks ago I was talking to a friend. You know one of 'those' conversations that spans 20+ subjects. Ya, I love that that's how mom's talk when the kids are around. It's kinda funny!

Anyway, she shared with me her laundry 'trick' and I adopted it! It's working SOOOO well I can hardly believe it.

So, I want to share it with you! Needless to say 6 kids produce a lot of laundry. The laundry in this house can feel like a monster that never goes away. It's pretty frustrating actually. I have days when I take a deep breath and congratulate myself for getting caught up and then the very next day 'the monster' is back and 'tapping on my shoulder'. UGH!

Follow me through my new laundry process...
Welcome to my laundry room! Not too bad for size.

The laundry room isn't huge, but I haven't had a space issue yet and I'm doing at least two loads a day. I'm happy with the size of it. The door next to the dryer is a huge closet! LOVE that! I'll give you a tour of that another day.

The picture on the right is of the kids' laundry baskets. They each have one. They put their dirty clothes right into their basket each time they change. I'm training them that not everything is dirty when they wear it once. That's a work in progress. I think my 9 and 10 year olds finally have it.

There are 2 things about this new system that work really well. #1 NO MORE SORTING clothes when they come out of the dryer. We use to have the 2 middles share a basket and the 2 littles share a basket and then my DH and I had one for our dry cleaning. With each kid having their own basket...we not only don't have to sort, but their socks stay together and we no longer have a HUGE pile of socks to sort and fold!!! Ya!!! #2 the 4 big kids put their own clothes through the washer and dryer. Then they take the basket of clean clothes to their room and fold them and put them away. Yep, my 6, 8, 9 and 10 year olds do their own laundry now. For a while it had been just the 9 and 10 year olds. No longer...this change is GOOD!

It works for me! Maybe it'll work for you too!?

Totally coveting your laundry room right now! You would die if you saw my tiny laundry room/pantry/garage=main entry way to the house! UGH! Great system though, and I love getting the kids to do their own. I need to work on that for sure!

Cool. My problem is the size of our laundry room for one...I'm drooling over yours. Literally our downstairs hall bathroom is bigger than the laundry which is the small space every.one walks through from the garage into the house...it is always just muddy dirty! Anyways...I can.not.get my children to put their dirty clothes into their baskets. And then when they did, and they got washed, and then the buckets went back into their rooms, they never put them away. So then clothes were everywhere again...my monster will.not.go.away! I'll keep dreaming hearing about your success though! I'm so just venting here...
