How our garden grows

One of my dreams is to get good at gardening. It's a joke our family that we kill everything green around our house. We have 'brown thumbs'. But I want to teach the children how to work hard and enjoy the 'fruits' and this is one way I want to do it.

We have a lot to learn through this process. We're ready and excited though and I think that's half the battle.

So about 10 days ago I was at Target in the 'yard' section and I saw this great simple way to start a garden.
But first I chose the fruits and veggies that I thought we'd enjoy growing and eating...
Cucumber, Sweet Peppers, Lettuce, Watermelon, Sweet Basil and Pumpkin

Then I grabbed one of the 'starter kits'. I figured since we're newbies this size was great for us. Plenty of
work!

Planting Day, March 14, 2012

So far, so good! Our seeds are germinating really well. The kids WATER them each morning and then they take them out to the back patio for some SUN, which we've had a lot of lately. At night we bring them inside since we know they're fragile and we don't know how cold it gets at night.

Stay tuned for an update on how our veggies and fruits look now!

Ya, but pumpkins and watermelon aren't going to last very long in our postage stamp! Dream on. . . .
